Former West Brom favourite in line for Celtic swap just 12 months after £7m exit

Celtic are eyeing a summer swoop for former West Brom defender Dara O'Shea. The Scottish champions have expressed interest in the Republic of Ireland international and have approached Burnley, but the move remains uncertain.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his squad with quality players like O'Shea to make an impact in the Champions League. However, it would require a significant offer for Burnley to consider selling O'Shea, who they purchased for £7 million from Albion last year.

A source from Burnley has informed Record Sport that O'Shea is a key player for their club. They also mentioned that any decision regarding Celtic's approach would likely be postponed until a new manager or head coach is appointed at Burnley.

The club has been searching for a new leader since Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich and is currently in the recruitment process.

O'Shea played a crucial role for Burnley in the Premier League last season, and it's unclear whether they would be willing to sell him now or retain him to ensure their promotion from the Championship. The 25 year old already boasts 26 caps for Ireland, reports the Daily Record.

Having risen through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion before moving to Turf Moor, O'Shea is a seasoned player. Last season, Celtic relied heavily on Cameron Carter-Vickers and Liam Scales.

Despite signing Gustaf Lagerbielke, he has struggled to break into the team, as has Maik Nawrocki. Both Lagerbielke and Nawrocki could potentially leave Celtic in this window, with Leece expressing interest in a loan move for Lagerbielke.
