Two planning applications have been submitted by Poundland regarding the former Wilko site in Newark. Located on St Mark's Place, unit 15 was home to Wilko for several years and was a busy part of the town centre.

Following the closure of the store in October 2023 along with many others across the county, this area of Newark is not as bustling as it once was. However, things could be changing for the empty unit as the retailer Poundland has submitted two applications for the unit.

One of these is requesting to change the existing entrance doors so that they are placed further down from their original location. The second application asks to add some new illuminate shopfront signs to the outside of the building.

Plans show the changes would add Poundland signs. There is currently a Poundland store on St Mark's Place a few doors down from the empty site at unit 22.

It is suspected that the discount retailer could move from this unit into the larger one, although this hasn't been officially confirmed. It was previously reported that Poundland would be taking over the former Wilko stores in Worksop, Beeston and Kimberley, as well as dozens of others across the country.

Nottinghamshire Live contacted Poundland for a comment but did not hear back by the time of publishing.
