The latest season of Fornite has been delayed again by Epic Games, as well as the planned live event, The Device.

Chapter 2, Season 3 will now begin on Wednesday, June 17, while the expected 'doomsday' event called The Device will take place on Monday, June 15.

The decision comes after the death of George Floyd, a Black man who was murdered by a police officer in Minneapolis last week while in custody.

Since Mr Floyd's tragic death, protests have not only erupted across cities in the United States, but also around the world, as demonstrators take a stand against systemic racism and police brutality.

In a statement posted on their website, Epic Games wrote: “Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism both overt and subtle against people of colour.

"We're acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing."

Other companies have also delayed events or game updates so they don't detract from the important conversations and protests around racial inequality happening right now.

Sony postponed its PlayStation 5 event earlier this week, which was supposed to take place June 4, and likewise, Call of Duty has delayed the launch of a new season for the same reason.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 3 has been delayed three times now. The season was scheduled to be launched on June 6, but was since moved back to June 11.

Now, it has been moved back once again to June 17. The Device is a live event which is thought to bring an end to the current season, in typical Fortnite fashion.
