Foundation season 2: Release date, cast, trailer and plot for Apple TV+ show

All empires fall, and that is certainly true of Apple TV+’s epic sci-fi series Foundation.

The show will soon return for its second season, following its huge cast of characters, from Salvor Hardin to Empire, as the story makes a significant time jump and hurtles towards the Second Crisis.

Apple TV+ has shared new details about its adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s classic novels, including when it will be released and new cast members.

Here is everything you need to know about S2 of Foundation.

Foundation season 2 release date

Foundation will return to Apple TV+ on Friday, 14 July and the show will premiere with its first episode, with subsequent episodes airing weekly on the streaming platform every Friday.

The second season, which is once again helmed by David S Goyer, will have 10 episodes in total.

Foundation season 2 plot

Season 2 of Foundation will begin more than a century after the end of season one, with tensions mounting all across the galaxy.

The Cleons — Brother Dawn, Brother Day and Brother Dusk — are starting to come apart following their discovery that they are no longer exact copies of their maker, and they will have to contend with a new vengeful queen plotting to destroy Empire from within.

Meanwhile Salvor and Gaal, who she has learned is her mother, join Hari Seldon on a journey across space where they discover a colony known as the Mentalics, who have the ability to alter psychohistory.

As they do so, The Foundation is spreading the Church of Seldon throughout the Outer Reach of the galaxy, thus starting a war with Empire and creating the Second Crisis.

Foundation season 2 cast

Lee Pace returns as Brother Day, and Jared Harris will also be back as Hari, as will Lou Llobell and Leah Harvey who play Gaal and Salvor, respectively.

Cassian Bilton will also reprise his role as Brother Dawn and Terrence Mann will play Brother Dusk, while Laura Birn will also return as Empire’s robot advisor Demerzel.

Newcomers to the cast include Isabella Laughland as Brother Constant, Kulvinder Ghir as Poly Verisof, Ella-Rae Smith as Queen Sareth of Cloud Dominion, Holt McCallany as Warden Jaegger Fount, Rachel House as Tellem Bond, Nimrat Kaur as Yanna Seldon, Ben Daniels as Bel Riose and Dimitri Leonidas as Hober Mallow.

When announcing the release date for the second season, Apple TV+ also shared a teaser trailer that showed just a taste of the drama unfolding in Foundation’s new episodes.

From plots to overthrow Empire to journeys across the galaxy, there will clearly be a lot for fans to enjoy from the new season when it returns.

Foundation season 1 is available to watch on Apple TV+ now, and season 2 will premiere on the streaming platform on Friday, July 14.
