Four Norfolk pubs scoop spot among the nation's best

Four pubs have been flying the flag for Norfolk after scooping a place among the best in the country.

The Great British Pub Awards has announced its finalists for its fourth year.

Undergoing a rigorous selection process, a wide range of factors are judged, from food to sustainability to social media.

Four Norfolk premises were triumphant over thousands of entrants across the UK to gain a place on the list.

The bar at No.Twenty9 (Image: No.Twenty9) In the Best Pub for Dogs category is No. Twenty9 Bar and Restaurant in Burnham Market.

Opening seven years ago, the pub goes the extra mile for canine guests, providing hampers with dog blankets and puppy robes in the hotel, as well as running a special dog-friendly menu.

In the Best Pub to Watch Sport category is the Murderers in Timber Hill in Norwich, with screens all around the pub, even above the urinals, the bar has become a hot spot for watching football in the city.

Up for Best Sustainable Pub is the Kings Head Inn, in Brooke. The pub champions a farm-to-fork concept, with produce sourced from the family farm.

The sustainability extends to the décor, with fallen trees from the farm used to create the bar, pub chairs and the headboards in the bedrooms.

The Angel at Watlington scooped a finalist spot for Best Pub for Food - with an absolute focus on the freshest local ingredients, the restaurant changes its menu daily to highlight the best produce they can get their hands on.

Taken over by chef Richard Crouch and his partner Emily Phipps in September 2018, the pair aimed to bring some "culinary prowess to west Norfolk" by overhauling the pub into a dining destination.

However, the judging isn't over yet, with an interview and surprise visit the final chance to wow the judges before the ceremony in Manchester in September.
