Fourth ‘Power’ Spinoff in the Works at Starz

Starz is eyeing a further expansion of its Power franchise — this one a prequel featuring two of the key characters in the original series.

The premium cable outlet is developing a drama titled Origins, which would follow younger versions of Ghost and Tommy, characters played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora in Power (Sikora also stars in the spinoff Power Book IV: Force). The project would be the fourth spinoff of Power, which premiered in 2014, following Book II: Ghost, Book III: Raising Kanan and Force.

“As we approach the 10-year anniversary of Power it is incredible to witness the enormous connection our fans have with the Power universe,” said Kathryn Busby, president of programming at Starz. “We can’t wait to see how Origins will further evolve this dynamic franchise while bringing fresh, gripping, and expansive storytelling to our audience.”

Raising Kanan creator and showrunner Sascha Penn will executive produce, along with Power creator Courtney A. Kemp (via her End of Episode company), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (via G-Unit Film and Television) and Mark Canton. Lionsgate Television produces the Power shows.

The flagship Power series ran for six seasons on Starz, and the three spinoffs are all ongoing. Ghost’s fourth season is set to premiere later this year, Raising Kanan is filming its fourth season, and Force recently began production on its third.
