The First Dates star was a contestant on the last series of the ITV reality show, where he shared the jungle camp with the likes of Nigel Farage and Josie Gibson. Campers are kept to a bland – and limited – diet or rice and beans unless they win better tucker in trials, and hunger is always a factor for them.
Many celebs lose weight after jetting to Australia for a stint in the camp and come out flaunting their svelte new selves, but during an appearance on This Morning, Sirieix revealed that wasn’t quite the case for him.
What, how, and why?
The TV star was chatting to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about Channel 4’s First Dates when Hammond pointed out that he was looking really well and questioned whether it was camp life. “You are looking absolutely great,” she said. “Is this from I’m A Celebrity?”
However, Sirieix replied: “The funny thing, when I meet people in the street they say, ‘Fred you look so skinny! You have lost so much weight.’ But I am the heaviest I have been in my life… I am 79/80 kilos.”
“I am really heavy now,” he added. “For me, for my weight.”
Hammond asked Sirieix if it was because he went into the jungle then came out and “stuffed (his) face” as a result.
“Yeah,” he replied. “Because I came back and I over-indulged… I had my first coffee and it just went straight to my head. I was buzzing.”
How did Fred Sirieix do on I'm A Celebrity?
Sirieix entered the I’m A Celeb jungle on 19 November and made it to 5 December, when he became the third camper to be eliminated. The series was won by reality TV star Sam Thompson, with boxing champ Tony Bellew runner up and former UKIP leader Farage coming third.
After Sirieix received his marching orders he posted a photo on Instagram that showed him with hosts Ant and Dec, telling fans he had lost weight while he was on the show but laughing: "Oh well it's Christmas soon."
