Rocky Flintoff, son of cricket legend Freddie Flintoff, enjoyed a remarkable debut for England U19s, scoring an impressive 106 to secure victory over a Young Lions Invitational XI on Monday.

The 16-year-old, who attended school in Manchester and started his career for a local club in Chesire, showcased glimmers of his father's batting prowess ahead of a three-match youth ODI series against Sri Lanka. England were in a precarious position when Flintoff entered the game, having lost both their openers in the first five overs and standing at 52-4 but the teenager was unaffected by the pressure, forming an 81-run partnership with Charlie Allison to put England in a strong position to chase down 288.

By the time Flintoff was caught on 106, England only needed 14 more runs, which Harry Moore and Tazeem Ali provided, securing the victory by two wickets. Flintoff's match-winning innings included eight fours and three sixes from 111 balls.

In an interesting twist, Archie Vaughan, son of 2005 Ashes-winning captain Michael Vaughan, was playing for the opposing side. The 18-year-old scored a stunning 85 from 83 balls, top-scoring for the Lions with 10 fours and a six. Vaughan also bowled eight overs, taking two wickets.

Flintoff had the honour of playing for England for the first time, an experience that would've filled the Flintoff household with joy. His mum Rachel was there to watch the proud moment at Loughborough.

However, Freddie missed out on this memorable moment due to his coaching duties for England in their upcoming T20 World Cup semi-final in the Caribbean. England will face India on Thursday in their attempt to reach the final and retain the World Cup.

Meanwhile, England U19's series with Sri Lanka will start in Chelmsford on Friday and Flintoff isn't the only familiar surname in the squad. Captain Luc Benkenstein, son of Lancashire head coach Dale, wicketkeeper; Haydon Mustard, son of ex-England player Phil, and Farhan Ahmed, whose elder brother Rehan is an emerging star for England, are also part of the team.

Flintoff was handed an England U19 call-up as a result of his seamless step up to Lancashire's 2nd XI. In April, he scored a century against Warwickshire, playing side-by-side with his 18-year-old sibling Corey at Edgbaston.

Earlier this month, Lancashire rewarded Rocky's talents with his first professional deal. This meant he would be following in the footsteps of his father who represented the county throughout his career.

After signing the contract, Flintoff Jnr stated: "I'm very happy. It's something that I've been working towards since I started playing cricket, so to sign for my home county is a dream come true.

"I've been with the club since I was 8 years old, so to have the opportunity to keep representing the Red Rose is a big honour. I have loved playing for the Second XI so far this season and I'm looking forward to continuing to work hard on all aspects of my game."

However, he's got a long road ahead if he wants to emulate his father. Flintoff Snr retired from international cricket back in 2009, having amassed 3,845 runs and taken 226 wickets in 79 Test matches for England.
