Free forestry seminar slated for Friday, April 26

Apr. 9—A free educational forestry seminar will be presented Friday, April 26 at the Texas A&M Forest Service, located at 1015 S.E. Loop 456, in Jacksonville.

The seminar, produced in partnership with the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, covers seven topics, presented in half-hour sessions, a presentation from the Trinity-Neches Forest Landowner Association, and walking tours in the arboretum, each with a different focus.

The schedule for the seminar is as follows:

—8:30 a.m. — Registration and morning refreshments

—9:00 a.m — Applying for Timber & Wildlife Exemptions, by Aaron Low, Cherokee CEA-Ag/NR

—9:30 a.m. — Forest Management Practices/Texas Climate Smart Initiative, by Jason Ellis, Texas A&M Forest Service

—10:00 a.m. — Break

—10:30 a.m. — Walking tour in Arboretum — Forest Health, Pine Plantations and Individual Tree Vigor/Growth, by Jason Ellis, Texas A&M Forest Service

—11:15 a.m. — Wildlife Habitat Management, by Reuben Gay, Texas Parks & Wildlife

—11:45 a.m. — Trinity-Neches Forest Landowner Association, by Phil Power, President

—12:00 p.m. — Lunch

—1:00 p.m. — Trees for Cherokee County, by Kim Benton, Cherokee CEA-Horticulture

—1:30 p.m. — Cost Share Assistance Programs for Forest Landowners, by Mack Slagle, natural Resource Conservation Service

—2:00 p.m. Walking Tour in Arboretum — Tree and Plant Identification, by Kim Benton, Cherokee CEA-Horticulture

—2:45 p.m. — Questions and adjournment

Although the seminar is free, registration for the event is requested by Monday, April 22.
