It seems the warmer weather is finally here for 2024, and that means one thing - we're all ready for some great days out with the family. However, as the cost of living hits more of us and makes families more cautious of what they might be spending, it's more important than ever to look to have a great time on a budget.

Whether it's visiting a beach, going to a museum, or visiting animals, there are some great places that can make for a cheap day out instead of paying over the odds for some of the more popular destinations.

To help you make the most of your money, and have a great 2024, we've put together a list of some suggestions for a cheap day out in Lincolnshire. We've even included some of our favourite destinations, just in case you were looking for a bit of inspiration.

Beaches

There are several different beaches to visit in Lincolnshire over the summer. These include Skegness, Sutton on Sea, Mablethorpe and Anderby Creek.

If you want to visit without having to pay for parking, many of the car parks offer free parking after 6pm for evening trips. You can find our full guide on parking in Skegness here.

Parks

There are lots of parks in and around Lincoln to go for a long walk and see the wildlife. In Lincoln there is the Arboretum, full of trees which are all named and is managed by the council, Boultham Park with a cafe, playing area and lake, and South & West Common which are full of horses.

You can also visit Hartsholme Country Park and Whisby Nature Park nearby.

Educational

There are several educational and interactive museums and activities you can do in Lincoln for free. You can visit the Museum of Lincolnshire Life which takes you back to 1700s Lincolnshire with different rooms, the Collection Museum and Usher Gallery which often have different exhibits on, and the Lincoln Free Walking Tour which takes you around the city.

Animals

Both Radcliff Donkey Sanctuary, located in Huttoft, Alford and Bransby Horses, located in Bransby, are free to visit and are non-profit organisations.

Splash pads

If you're heading to the Lincolnshire coast this year, then these could be a great option. Splash pads, otherwise known as interactive fountains, are dotted in different places in Lincolnshire and are a fun (and free) place to take children.

There is Queen's Park in Mablethorpe, Fairy Dell in Skegness and Wyndham Park in Grantham.
