This week marks a momentous occasion in TV history, as it's been a whole quarter of a century since Friends first dropped on NBC – could we BE any older?

To mark the 25th anniversary of the sitcom's premiere, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc all posted touching tributes with a throwback pic to their millions of followers on Instagram.

All four stars kickstarted their messages by writing, "Celebrating a Thursday night 25 years ago," with Schwimmer (aka Ross) going on to say, "THANK YOU to all the fans out there!! We couldn't have done it without you," before hashtagging the rest of his co-stars.

'Smelly Cat' singer Kudrow added: "We might be in different places but we are connected," while Joey star LeBlanc wrote: "Seems like yesterday. Thanks to all the fans for watching."

Monica favourite Cox thanked all of the loyal Friends fans across the world: "You've certainly been there for us." She also took a friendly swipe at Jennifer Aniston and Matthew Perry (who appear to be a bit behind on their Instagram game), posting the hashtags: "#seriouslyjen?" and "#youtoomatthew".

The show first dropped on the network on September 22, 1994 – little did the cast and crew realise what a gargantuan hit it would turn out to be.

Even now, 25 years later, the sitcom juggernaut remains one of the most-watched TV shows on Netflix ever since the streamer bought the rights several years back.

It's for this reason that fans continue to call on the producers to bring the cast back for a reunion show. But alas, time and time again a number of the show's stars have insisted that they're not up for a comeback.

As did creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane in a panel at Tribeca TV Festival last week (September 13).

"The show was about that time in life when friends are your family,” explained Kauffman. "It's not going to beat what we did."

Crane agreed, stating: "We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it."

In the words of Joey, it's never going to happen.
