Friends Co-Creator Marta Kauffman Shuts Down Reunion Hopes: ‘It’ll Never Happen’

Our obsession with Friends is real – almost as real as our obsession with a Friends reunion – but sadly, sitcom co-creator Marta Kauffman has confirmed that we won’t be seeing our favourite characters in Central Perk again.

Writer and TV producer Kauffman, 59, revealed that a reunion show starring Jennifer Aniston (as Rachel Green), Courtney Cox (as Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (as Phoebe Buffay), Matthew Perry (as Chandler Bing), David Schwimmer (as Ross Geller) and Matt LeBlanc (as Joey Tribbiani) will “never happen” during an interview with Deadline.

She crushed the hopes of fans everywhere when asked if people still nag her about bringing the beloved ‘90s sitcom back, and responded: “They nag me all the time about it and my answer is that Friends was a show about that time in your life when your friends are your family, and in a weird way, this isn’t that different.”

“Once you start having family of your own, it changes, and the show was over,” she explained. “A show has a lifespan, I believe, and there’s no reason to continue doing it just because people miss the characters.”

Just in case the message wasn’t clear, she added: “Watch the old ones, there is no way we could win that. And there’s no way it would be satisfying and it’ll never happen. We’ll never do it.”

And in case you’re wondering – we’re totally FINE with this news.

In the meantime, while you’re sat waiting for the reunion that will never happen, you could try and bag yourself some tickets to FriendsFest this summer, or re-watch your ten season box set from the beginning again.
