Friends' Jennifer Aniston announces death of her father John Aniston

Friends star Jennifer Aniston has announced the death of her father John Aniston, who died on Friday, November 11, aged 89.

Aniston announced the news on her Instagram on Monday, posting a slideshow of photos of her father, including pictures of the two of them from Aniston's childhood.

Aniston wrote a touching tribute to her father in the caption. She wrote: "Sweet papa…⁣ John Anthony Aniston. You were one of the most beautiful humans I ever knew."

She continued: "I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace – and without pain. And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. That number will forever hold an even greater meaning for me now 🕊️I’ll love you till the end of time."

She ended the post by writing: "Don’t forget to visit."

The veteran Greek-American actor, who was born Yannis Anastassakis, was best known for his role on the long-running US TV show Days of Our Lives. He played Victor Kiriakis in more than 2,800 episodes from 1985 to 2022.

He played another character briefly in 1970, but his role as Viktor earned him a Daytime Emmys Lifetime Achievement Award.

Many actors and celebrities left comments on Aniston's touching Instagram post including Taika Waititi, Kaley Cuoco, Gwyneth Paltrow, Aaron Paul, Sarah Hyland, Ryan Reynolds, her ex-husband Justin Theroux.

Reese Witherspoon, who produced and starred in The Morning Show opposite Aniston, wrote: "Sending you all my angels 🕊️I love you Sister." Witherspoon and Aniston played onscreen sisters in Friends.

Lily Collins wrote "sending all the love and light possible and hugs I could possibly give," while Amy Sedaris commented "awwwwww so sorry. I’ll light a candle. We love our fathers."

John Aniston had a long-lasting career that ran from 1962 all the way up to the present day. He continued working on Days of Our Lives until his death.
