A full list of General Election results from North Yorkshire constituencies

All of the results from the General Election in North Yorkshire have been revealed, as it proved to be a triumphant campaign for the Labour Party across the UK.

At just after 5am on Friday (July 5), it was declared that Labour had won the General Election after reaching the required 326 seats - in what was a crowning moment for the political party and marked a washout for the Conservative Party.

Despite several wins for the Conservatives in North Yorkshire, including Rishi Sunak in Northallerton and Richmond, as well as Kevin Hollinrake in Thirsk and Malton and Julian Smith in Skipton and Ripon - countless seat losses across the UK capped off a disastrous election campaign for the Tories.

In Northallerton and Richmond, Rishi Sunak clung on as MP - but conceded election defeat to Labour.

Mr Sunak gained 23,059 votes in Northallerton and Richmond - beating second-placed Labour candidate Ian Wilson, and third-placed Reform candidate, Lee Taylor.

Following the result, he said the British people had delivered a “sobering verdict” on his party.

Mr Sunak also added it had been a “difficult night” and that the Labour party had won the General Election.

Rishi Sunak, his wife and their security and entourage left the election count as soon as he had finished making a speech after the result was declared.

Other candidates continued to mill around the counting hall, with some seen shaking hands with one another.

Following the result, Mr Sunak said: “On this difficult night, I’d like to express my gratitude to the people of the Richmond and Northallerton constituency for your continued support.”

He added: “The Labour Party has won this General Election, and I’ve called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides. That is something that should give us all confidence in our country’s stability and future.

“The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight, there is much to learn… and I take responsibility for the loss. To the many good, hard-working Conservative candidates who lost tonight, despite their tireless efforts, their local records and delivery, and their dedication to their communities. I am sorry.”

Elsewhere, a significant loss for the Conservatives in Harrogate and Knaresborough saw Tom Gordon from the Liberal Democrats win with an 8000-vote majority, while Labour gained a win in the Scarborough and Whitby constituency, which saw Alison Hume elected.

In other results, Tory candidate for Thirsk and Malton, Kevin Hollinrake, was re-elected, and Labour's Keir Mather, who won a by-election in Selby last year, was re-elected.

Finally, at around 6.45am, Alec Shelbrooke was re-elected in Wetherby and Easingwold, as he claimed victory over Labour's Ben Pickles.
