Full list of IDs accepted for voting at 2024 general election
Voters all across the country will soon be heading to their local polling station to decide on their next MP.
Polling stations will open at 7am and will close at 10pm on Thursday, with voters required to attend the address listed on their poll card to fill in their ballot. Some relatively new rules put in place in the last local election requires voters at polling stations to show an approved form of ID.
Luckily, several different types of ID can be used - including passports, driving licences and bus passes - and the Electoral Commission has released a full list of accepted forms of ID.
The name on your ID should match the name you used to register to vote. Even if it's expired, your ID can still be used, provided the photo still resembles you. If you are casting a postal vote, there is no requirement for photo ID. However, if you have been nominated to vote on behalf of someone else through proxy voting, you will need to provide your own photo identification.
