London's best school for progression have been revealed in a new study. The School Attainment Report, created by Non-Stop Kids and Online Marketing Surgery, ranks secondary schools in London based on their average Progress 8 score.

This score is a way of measuring the progress that pupils make from the end of Key Stage 2 to the end of Key Stage 4. Key Stage 2 is normally known as Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6, while Key Stage 4 is normally known as Year 10 and Year 11.

Progress 8 is calculated by taking a pupil’s best-scoring subjects at GCSEs alongside maths, English and the sciences and working out their attainment on average compared to their peers in primary school. The School Attainment Report does not include special education schools.

The average is set at zero, with scores above zero indicating a higher than average progress made. When a score is below zero it shows that less progress has been made than what is expected.

The report is compiled from Gov.uk data from last year's GCSE results, with Progress 8 scores indicating the amount of help each secondary school gave pupils to improve their overall grades.

In London, Michaela Community School in Brent had the highest Progress 8 score in the city, being 2.37 above the average of zero. This is the school called 'Britain's strictest school' where pupils sing the national anthem and can't sit with their friends at lunch.
