The parliamentary candidates standing in Teesside constituencies have been confirmed ahead of the upcoming General Election.

Voters across the area will go to the polls on July 4, following Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's shock announcement last month. These elections use the first-past-the-post voting system, meaning everyone votes for one candidate and the candidate with the most votes wins the election.

Elected MPs will go on to represent local residents at Westminster. Candidates in Teesside's parliamentary seats are as follows (in alphabetical order by surname)

Middlesbrough and Thornaby East constituency

The new constituency will include the Stockton Council wards of Mandale and Victoria and Stainsby Hill. Andy McDonald has held the seat since 2012 and will be defending a 8,395 majority.

Votes will be verified and counted at Middlesbrough Sports Village on Alan Peacock Way.

Kiran Fothergill - The Conservative Party

Matthew Gareth Harris - The Green Party

Andy McDonald - Labour Party

Middlesbrough and South and East Cleveland constituency

Boundary changes mean Saltburn has been moved from the Parliamentary constituency into Redcar, while Park End and Beckfield in Middlesbrough have been added to it. Reform UK was expected to stand in the neighbouring Middlesbrough and South and East Cleveland constituency, but its potential candidate Charlie Thompson was not on Friday's published list.

He said he was endorsing Conservative Sir Simon Clarke instead, who has held the seat since 2017 and secured a 11,626 majority two years later in 2019.

Jemma Joy - Liberal Democrats

Rod Liddle - Social Democratic Party

Luke Myer - Labour Party

Labour has held this seat since its establishment in 1983. Alex Cunningham has represented the constituency in Parliament since 2010, with a reduced majority of just over 1,000 from 2019.

He is stepping down as Stockton North MP after more than three decades of public life, with five candidates vying to replace him.

Niall Bell Innes - Conservative Party

John Gerard McDermottroe - Reform UK

Chris McDonald - Labour Party

Stockton West constituency

This new constituency has been created under a redrawing of parliamentary boundaries now including villages on the outskirts of
Darlington which had been part of Sedgefield. The previous Stockton South seat had changed hands between Conservative and Labour MPs, with Conservative Matt Vickers winning the seat by more than 5,000 votes in 2019.
