Full Runnymede Borough Council local elections 2024 list of candidates

Runnymede Borough Council could have its first non-Conservative leader, having been under Tory control since its inception in 1974. The borough went to no overall control last year with the Conservatives operating under a confidence and supply deal with the Ottershaw Residents’ three councillors.

Going into the May 2 local elections the Conservatives have 18 seats, with six Runnymede Independent Residents' Group, five independents, four Labour, four Liberal Democrats, two Green Party, and one Reform UK. Results for the 15 seats up this year are expected to be declared by 5pm on Friday, May 3.

The Conservatives will be defending nine seats on the day while hoping to win back Addlestone North, which they held until the deputy mayor Robert Bromley crossed the floor and joined Reform UK. A party needs 21 seats to have full control of the council, and any gains made by opposition parties could result in a new coalition deciding how Runnymede Borough Council is run.
