Stephen (Steph) and Ayesha Curry are one of basketball's most longstanding couples — and the two never shy away from gushing about each other. They met as teens at their church youth group in Charlotte, North Carolina, their relationship slowly but surely evolved into something more.

Even after four children and 20-plus years together, this dynamic duo has managed to keep the spark alive in their relationship, “For us,” Ayesha tells PEOPLE,  “it's just not forgetting to date each other, make the time to get dressed up and go out and do all the things.” She continued, "That's what keeps it spicy."

Over the past two decades, the two have been by each other’s side to celebrate major milestones, including Stephen’s college graduation, his NBA Finals win, and, of course, the birth of four beautiful children. Here’s a complete look back at their relationship, starting from when they first met as teenagers.

2003: Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry first meet.

While they didn’t officially couple up until 2008 — though more on that later — Stephen and Ayesha’s love story technically dates back to 2003, when the two first met as teens at a church youth group in Charlotte, N.C. Reflecting back on their first meeting, Ayesha told PEOPLE, "We were just kids. He was the cute boy at church that all of the girls were obsessed with, so I made a generalization that maybe he wasn't for me." Meanwhile, in the same interview, Stephen revealed that he doesn’t remember the “exact first day” he first met his future wife. "There was no wind blowing in her face with a backlight,” he quipped.

2008: Stephen Curry and Ayesha Curry reconnect — and eventually go on their first date.

About five years after their first meeting, Ayesha and Stephen reconnected. In 2008, Ayesha was living in Los Angeles to pursue as a career as an actress and model. While here, she reconnected with Stephen when he was in town to attend the ESPYs — BTW, he ended up winning the award for Breakout Athlete that year! Prior to going out with Stephen, Ayesha revealed to PEOPLE that she previously had a “no athletes” dating policy, which actually stems from her parents. "My parents found this paper from my high school theater class where you had to write down what you wanted in a significant other," she said, before continuing, "At the bottom, it said, 'No athletes because they're arrogant.' "

Shortly after reconnecting, Stephen and Ayesha went on their first date, with Ayehsa revealing on a 2019 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live that she picked him up in her “'98 Astro van.” From there, they went to Hollywood Boulevard, went to Madame Tussauds, and got chai tea lattes. In 2020, she opened up even more about their first date to PEOPLE, calling Stephen “so funny and silly. The absolute opposite of what I thought he was going to be.”

However, back in 2016, she told the New York Post that their first kiss was incredibly awkward. "He was mid-conversation and came flying at my face like a thief in the night," she recalled. "So I was, like, 'No.' Then I thought, 'Oh, I didn't know this is what was happening.'”

July 2010: Stephen Curry proposes to Ayesha Curry.

In July 2010, Stephen popped the question to Ayesha, and he revealed to Parents magazine  in 2016 that the proposal “was like The Notebook.” Further, he revealed, "The plan was to act like we were going to a family cookout. So we pulled up to the house and I stopped in the middle of the driveway, got down on my knee and went into my spiel. Little did I know the whole family was looking out the window."

Ayesha also dished about the tender moment to the Charlotte Observer. “He asked me if I knew where we were standing. It was [in the driveway of my parents’ house] the spot where we had our first kiss.” Then, she says, ‘He pulled me close and started saying all these sweet things and then dropped.”
