The highly anticipated follow-up to Mad Max: Fury Road is a “standalone action adventure that will reveal the origins of" Furiosa, said the movie’s press release.
When asked whether she reached out to Theron about portraying Furiosa, Taylor-Joy told PEOPLE, “I think both of us ended up in a situation where we were both so respectful of each other that we didn't want to reach out prior [to filming].”
The Queen’s Gambit actress added that as soon as she finished promoting her 2022 film The Menu (which, incidentally, costarred Hoult, 34), she and Theron, 48, would meet for dinner and “swap war stories” about Furiosa.
The Bombshell star later told The Hollywood Reporter that she “totally get(s)” why Taylor-Joy didn't contact her about the role, and had nothing but praise. "One of the greatest f---ing actresses is picking up something that I only imagined," Theron said in reference to Taylor-Joy.
