Nottingham Forest have lashed out at the officiating in their 2-0 Premier League defeat to Everton with a furious statement on social media.

The Reds were defeated at Goodison Park and are now just one point clear of the relegation zone. In the contest, Forest were denied three penalty decisions after VAR had reviewed the incidents.

Following the final whistle on Sunday, the official X account of the club wrote: "Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept.

"We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn't change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times. NFFC will now consider its options."

Nuno Espirito Santo's side thought they should have had three separate penalties on Merseyside. In the first-half, when the score was 0-0, Ashley Young's challenge on Giovanni Reyna was deemed a fair challenge by VAR before Idrissa Gueye opened the scoring.

On the brink of half-time, Young once again escaped conceding a penalty when Callum Hudson-Odoi's cut-back inside the penalty area struck the defender's right arm. However, VAR again didn't reverse Anthony Taylor's on-field decision.

Later on in the game, Hudson-Odoi was then brought to the ground by Young in the box and no penalty was awarded.

Forest's statement on social media has been labelled 'embarrassing' by Jamie Carragher. Speaking on Sky Sports, the former Liverpool defender said: "It tells you where we are with the Premier League now and the clubs. Stuart Attwell and Anthony Taylor have had a horrific day today. Awful and they should be rightly criticised for that, and that could have real implications for Forest.

"I get the frustration. But what I have just read there on social media, that is like a fan in a pub. That is embarrassing from Nottingham Forest. I get the frustration.

"That... rubbish about the VAR is a Luton fan, you can't get involved in that and you have to show a little bit of class if you are a football club and I get it, the frustration. The officials have had an awful day, terrible. But you can't get involved in that, that is nonsense."
