Future brother-in-law stabbed over family fortune

A Dubai resident is accused of killing his colleague because he feared the man was trying to steal his family’s fortune.

Dubai Public Prosecution said the victim planned to marry the man’s sister-in-law, but the 31-year-old Asian suspect was against it because he thought his co-worker was only after family riches belonging to the bride-to-be and the defendant’s wife.

Sami Al Shamsi, head of Bur Dubai Prosecution, said in a statement: “The victim wanted to marry the defendant’s sister-in-law. The defendant was against this and refused because his wife and his sister-in-law had a legacy and big fortune. He thought the man would take the cash.”

It was not revealed how much of a fortune was at stake.

Prosecutors claim the suspect planned the murder and took a metal bar, screwdriver and a big bag with him on the day he decided to kill.

“He took a bus to the defendant’s flat and then asked if they could go for a walk to talk things through,” Al Shamsi added. “He took him to a deserted, dark area in Dubai. They started arguing and he hit him with the bar on the head three times. The victim fell to the ground.”

The defendant then allegedly placed the body in the big plastic bag thinking he was dead. However, it is claimed that when he tried to take the body away to dump it, he discovered the victim was still alive.

“He noticed he was breathing so he stabbed him in his neck twice using the screwdriver and then stole his mobile phone. He left the body in an under construction area of Nad Al Sheba,” Al Shamsi said. Police discovered the body the next day and arrested the defendant.

During initial investigations he confessed to the murder. “They were friends and workmates and from the same country but he killed him in cold blood,” Al Shamsi added.
