Gabby Logan brought Sunday night's Match of the Day to as brief pause, to deliver an update on much loved pundit Alan Hansen, as the presenter and her colleagues in the studio celebrated his 'incredible' turnaround, after he was left severely unwell in hospital last week.

A statement released from Alan's former club Liverpool broke the worrying news of his grave condition last week, before Gabby's BBC co-star Gary Lineker addressed his ex Match of the Day teammate's health battle as he anchored coverage of the Euro 2024 game between Italy and Albania on June 22, with Alan Shearer, also working that night, appearing emotional as he too paid tribute and wished him well.

As fans and colleagues alike kept everything crossed for a positive update on Alan, one arrived on Sunday afternoon, with a statement released by Liverpool revealing that the Scotsman had been discharged from hospital. Gary was one of the first stars to react to the update, describing it as 'the best news ever' on his X account, before Gabby then relayed the news to BBC viewers at home as she took charge of Scotland v Hungary a few hours later.

Just as she, Shearer, David Moyes and Rachel Corsie talked about the challenge facing Scotland as they aimed to make the last 16 of the Euros, Gabby interrupted: "Well one piece of good news already today, Alan Hansen has been released from hospital. A statement released by Liverpool said 'Alan, Janet, Adam, Lucy and family would like to thank everybody for their wonderful messages of love and support. It has been overwhelming and helped enormously."

After reading out the statement, Gabby then added: "What an incredible turnaround in the last 10 days and he's going to be tucked up on the sofa tonight, maybe with some snacks," as Shearer then quipped: "Great news that he's out and hopefully feeling better. And his timing is perfect - just in time to watch us and his team."
