Remember what happened in Game of Thrones season one when Ned Stark told Arya and Sansa he’d be sending them back to Winterfell from King’s Landing? Arya argued that she’d only just begun making progress with her “dancing teacher” Syrio Forel and well, Sansa argued that she was supposed to marry Prince Joffrey.

“I love him!” she’d whined as Arya looked on. “I’m meant to be his queen and have his babies…I don’t want someone brave and gentle and strong, I want him. He’ll be the greatest king there ever was – a golden lion – and I’ll give him sons with beautiful blonde hair.”

Despite Ned’s best intentions, it seemed there wasn’t much he could do to get Sansa to snap out of her desperation to get with Joffrey. She didn’t care that her dad was concerned about her and Arya’s safety but as frustrating as the old Sansa’s behaviour was, we can all probably relate in some way.

Since then, Sansa’s been to hell and back. Her dad was beheaded right in front of her eyes, she was almost murdered by her aunt, she was forced to marry TWICE and to top it all off, was raped and abused by Ramsay Bolton who now presides over her childhood home.

Now reunited with her supposed half-brother Jon Snow, Sansa’s journey over the past six seasons sees her stronger, wiser and braver than what we could have ever imagined her to be. Having received news of Rickon’s capture by Ramsay at Winterfell, it is she who pushes Jon to take back control of the North and rescue their youngest brother.

I’ve wondered what changes we’d see in Jon’s character after he came back from the dead and it appears that the new Jon NEEDS the new Sansa to kick his butt into gear to prepare for what might be Game of Throne’s biggest rescue mission yet!
