“Game of Thrones” actor Thor Björnsson and wife announce stillbirth of baby girl: 'Her spirit lives on'
"The grief we feel will be with us forever but so will the love," the couple wrote in a joint post on Instagram.
Game of Thrones actor Hafþór "Thor" Björnsson and his wife, Kelsey Henson, have announced the heartbreaking stillbirth of their daughter.
In a joint post shared Friday on Instagram, the 34-year-old Icelandic strength athlete-actor best known for his role as Gregor Clegane (also known as "The Mountain") on the HBO drama series revealed alongside Henson, 33, that the couple's baby girl, Grace Morgan Hafthorsdottir, was born Wednesday at just under 22 weeks of gestation.
"After a noticeable decrease in movement we found out her heart had stopped beating," read a caption on the post, which also included images of the pair as well as of the baby. "Words cannot describe our pain of this loss or our happiness at being able to spend time with our daughter. She is absolutely beautiful, with blonde lashes and brows and a little smile for mom and dad. The love we feel for her is overwhelming. The grief we feel will be with us forever but so will the love."
They went on to say that all of their "hopes and dreams for her have been taken away" in the wake of the baby's death, but they looked forward to being "with her again" someday. The couple additionally shared images of their son, Stormur, 3, holding Grace in a blanket.
"Her spirit lives on through us and her siblings," they concluded. "We ask that you respect our privacy at this time as we grieve this unbearable loss. Thank you all for any kind words and support."
Björnsson previously announced that Henson was pregnant in October, where he also noted that the pair, who were married in 2018, experienced "difficulties in getting pregnant" before finding out that Grace was on the way.
