One of the hardest parts of being a Game of Thrones actor undoubtedly has to be maintaining the show's closely-guarded secrets.

With showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss going as far as to introduce self-destructing scripts, the battle for secrecy has proven to be a real struggle for some of the stars.

But apparently, that's not the only drawback of being part of arguably the biggest show on television. You're also not allowed to wash your hair.

That's according to Sansa Stark actress Sophie Turner, who's revealed that she was asked to stop washing her barnet from season 5 onwards.

In an interview with InStyle, she explained: "For the first few seasons I was allowed to wash my hair because I was an aristocratic young girl.

"Towards season 5 they started asking me to not wash my hair and it was really disgusting. Now I wear a wig so I can wash my hair whenever I want, which is nice. But yes, for a couple of years I was living with pretty greasy hair."

Asked if it ever got itchy, she replied: "Really itchy! Also, we would have the snow machines going so we would have little snow paper particles that would get stuck in the grease. It was disgusting."

Nothing like a bit of matted authenticity.

Game of Thrones season 8 will premiere on April 14, 2019. The show airs on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Season 7 is now available to buy on DVD, Blu-ray or digital download.
