Game of Thrones and Marvel stars discuss Netflix erotic thriller Obsession

Netflix's Obsession premiered today (April 13) on the streamer, starring Game of Thrones' Indira Varma and Ms Marvel's Rish Shah as a mother-son duo betrayed by those closest to them.

The series follows the all-consuming affair between Anna (Happy Valley's Charlie Murphy), engaged to Shah's Jay, and her fiancé's father William (The Hobbit's Richard Armitage). Unbeknownst to his wife Ingrid (Varma), William and Anna embark on a whirlwind, devastating secret romance which can unleash terrible consequences on the entire family.

Varma and Shah spoke with Digital Spy ahead of the series' debut, praising the passionate tone of the series as well as being able to sit with its most intense scenes.

"I was really keen to do something more domestic," Varma said. "The delicacy of the emotions that are in play, that's sort of my favourite thing. I think that's why I wanted to do it."

"Definitely, same for me," agreed Shah. "I feel like the pacing of this... so much is happening so quickly within the four episodes, it does escalate so quickly. [But] it felt as though we really had the time to sit within those moments of difficulty or truth or whatever it was."

"And the unspoken," Varma added. "There's a lot of unspoken, whereas often in sci fi or epic stuff, it's all action. There's a lot of action. So this was nice."

The Ellaria Sand actress is no stranger to an action gig. Recently seen in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Varma will next appear in two other high-octane narratives with her Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One and Dune: The Sisterhood roles.

Obsession will be available to stream on Netflix from April 13.
