A gang was reportedly seen racing down a main road on electric bikes and driving into woodland.

Merseyside Police have arrested a man and seized a suspected stolen bike following an incident in Prenton, Wirral, on Wednesday (July 3). At around 6.45pm, police received reports that a group of men had been spotted on electric bikes at Duck Pond Lane, off Woodchurch Road, driving dangerously and causing members of the public to fear for their safety.

There were unconfirmed reports that the men were in possession of weapons, police said.

The bikes were seen going into woodland off Viner Road South. A man was detained by Matrix officers nearby and a suspected stolen Sur-Ron bike was seized.

A 19-year-old man from Beechwood was arrested on suspicion of affray, theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence. He remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Inspector Phil Ryan said: "This incident will have been concerning to witness and we are determined to find all of those responsible. We think that, given the hour, passers-by on foot or in vehicles may have captured this incident, and such evidence could be vital.

"If you were in the area at around 6.45pm and saw bikes being driven in a dangerous manner, please come forward. We will act on all information provided to investigate this incident and put those responsible before the courts.

"Likewise, if you know about the storage of suspected stolen electric bikes then let us know so we can remove vehicles before they put people at risk."
