Gardening can be a fun yet tricky task with many people keen to make the most of their outdoor spaces - especially with the sunny weather we've had in a recent days.

To help people make their gardens look great this year, a TikToker who shares tips - from storing outdoor furniture to preventing plants from dying - has said that there are a number of jobs that people can start doing this May.

Michael, also known as the @themediterraneangardener, says now is the time to start doing things you might have missed out on last month - including pruning, cleaning and lawn care.

"If you didn't prune your lavender at the end of summer you can do that now to stop it going leggy," he said. This term means that your plant has likely grown tall, but with very few leaves.

If you want to reseed your lawn, do this by the end of May, he suggests, adding that applying nitrogen-rich summer lawn feed should encourage leafy growth.

When it comes to flowers, you can now start to plant out dahlia tubers and cannas as the risk of frost has now passed. Not only that, but climbing plants such as clematis and wisteria are great to tie to your plants as they can act as support to keep them upright.

To get a "good display next year" you should apply liquid feed to tulips and daffodils with the expert adding: " [You should also] plant out summer bedding and tender annuals like sunflowers and cosmos after the last frost and harden off tender plants raised indoors, remembering to bring them back in at night."

And finally, when it comes to snails, you can reduce their population by going on regular hunts, especially during damp weather to ensure they aren't going to ruin all of your hard work.

So get out into your garden this May, soak up the sun, wear SPF and let your garden bloom!
