Gary Lineker has reportedly bagged a hefty £125k from his Euro 2024 podcast, despite causing a stir among England players.

The ex-England star forms a hit online trio with Micah Richards and Alan Shearer on The Rest Is Football podcast.

Since its launch at the beginning of the 2023/24 season, the podcast has increased its episodes, especially with Lineker and co. dissecting Euro 2024.

It seems that the former Leicester and England ace has seen a nice boost to his finances as a result. The Times has crunched the numbers and suggests that the broadcaster has raked in £125,000 from the Euros episodes alone.

Advertisers are said to have shelled out £45 per 1,000 views for any direct mentions by Lineker or his podcast mates - or £15 for mere associations. A surge in popularity has apparently sent their profits soaring, reports the Mirror.

Harry Lineker, who produces the podcast, claims downloads have jumped by 62% since the Euros began. YouTube views have also skyrocketed by an incredible 83%.

This success comes amidst a public spat between Lineker and England skipper Harry Kane, following Lineker's critique of the team's performance against Denmark, branding it "s***".

Kane responded, suggesting that Lineker might understand the predicament faced by the current England squad. He stated: "I would never want to be disrespectful to any player, especially a player who has worn the shirt and knows what it is like to play for England.

"But what ex-players who are now pundits need to understand is that it's hard not to take notice of their comments, particularly for players who aren't used to it or those new to the environment.

"I always feel they have a responsibility I understand they need to be honest and share their views but they also have a duty as former England players. The reality is we haven't won anything as a country for a long time and many of these players were part of that too, so they know how challenging it is."

Interestingly, Lineker was conspicuously absent from one of the recent episodes of the podcast. Revealing why, Shearer quipped: "Gary is still sleeping in his bed, he still hasn't woken up so we'll just crack on without him Micah."

He added: "To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is f***ing unacceptable, where are you Lineker?"
