Leicester City earned a dominant 5-0 win over Southampton on Tuesday night to edge closer toward promotion.

An Abdul Fatawu hattrick alongside goals from Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy saw the Foxes thrash one of their promotion rivals at the King Power Stadium. Enzo Maresca's side are now four points clear at the top of the Championship and will secure a return to the Premier League if they win at Preston on Monday.

And Foxes fan Lineker could not hide his delight after a comprehensive victory by Maresca's team. The Match of the Day host simply posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Leicesterrrrrrrrrrrrr," followed by three clapping hands emojis.

Lineker sent a rally cry to his boyhood club last week after their recent dip in form before securing wins over West Brom and Southampton.

"I mean, I have got lots of Leicester fans who are friends and family, including three of my lads, and we are all bloody grumbling. But, we also know the results have been so favourable, even after they have lost it is still in Leicester’s hands to go up," he said on the Rest is Football podcast

"They have got three of their last four games at home, but come on lads. Get a grip. Get a grip! Make it happen. Don’t just hope it happens. Get out there, make it happen. Stop trembling, stop being nervous. Get out there, score some goals, have some fun, play some football, entertain the crowd, win the bloody title and get back in the Premier League. There you go, there is my team talk."
