Gary Neville awkwardly put Roy Keane on the spot when quizzing him about his former Manchester United team-mates.

The United legends are out in Germany working as part of ITV’s punditry team at Euro 2024. While their focus has primarily been on Gareth Southgate’s England side and the other remaining contenders in the tournament, the pair briefly turned their attention back to their playing days.

In a clip posted on social media, Neville and Keane took turns to call out clues about their former team-mates without naming names or any other obvious hints. However, the game backfired for Keane when Neville was presented with a picture of Teddy Sheringham.

Tasked with making suggestions for Keane, Neville quipped: “You didn't like him... that could be anybody. Jeez, I’ve got a list!” Two names immediately sprung to mind for ex-United captain Keane, who uncomfortably replied: “No, you shouldn't say I didn't like him... Jordi [Cruyff]? Or Teddy?”

Keane’s reply caused Neville to burst into laughter before clearing up that Sheringham was the right answer. “That’s wrong. I didn't mind Teddy,” Keane insisted. “I just didn't get on with him. We had a fallout but that’s just working.”

Keane, who also jokingly described himself as the “greatest United midfielder ever”, gave insight into another two former strikers at the club. The ex-Republic of Ireland skipper described new United coach Ruud van Nistelrooy as “the best finisher we played with”.

Meanwhile, Keane reminded Neville of how he helped convince Sir Alex Ferguson to snap up Louis Saha by describing the French forward as the “striker we signed who previously ran you ragged”.

Neville has revealed that an FA Cup display by Saha prompted Ferguson to ask for a rare piece of advice from his players. Two years later, the striker was part of a Fulham team that won 3-1 at Old Trafford and he was signed later that season.

"Sir Alex never asked us which players we should sign or never asked us information about players he was going to sign," Neville told Sky Sports. "But after we played Fulham one time in the FA Cup, he actually asked us as defenders, would we sign Louis Saha? We all said 'yes' straight away."

"Louis was a brilliant, brilliant player,” Neville admitted. “He gave me absolute nightmares when I used to play against him when he played for Fulham - him and Luis Boa Morte."
