Gavin & Stacey Christmas finale 'like a puzzle' says James Corden in episode update

Gavin & Stacey co-creator James Corden has confirmed when the final episode of the series is set to begin filming, saying the process is "like a puzzle". Earlier this year, following a leak from publication Deadline, the BBC confirmed that the series would return for one final episode this Christmas.

Discussing the upcoming episode, which is set to reveal whether Smithy said ‘yes’ to Nessa’s proposal, James told Zoe Ball on her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show: "We'll be shooting it around September/October time.”

James added: "Building that show is like building a Jenga puzzle. Cast availabilities and things like that, but I think it will be okay. Ruth and I, we have to do one last pass and clean up of it [the script] really, because the cast are like, 'When can I read it?' And we're like, 'Ahhh'.

"We don't really want to give it to anybody unless we feel like it's... So we have to make a few more trims and a few little adjustments. But I'm very excited to share it with people."

Official cast confirmation for the Christmas special is yet to be announced, but Alison Steadman has revealed she would be returning to reprise her role of Pamela 'Pam' Shipman alongside Larry Lamb, who plays her husband Michael 'Mick' Shipman. After the Christmas special announcement, Joanna Page also confirmed she would be returning to play Stacey.

Gavin & Stacey was last on our screens on Christmas Day in 2019. The special episode was well received by both viewers and critics and many people have called for the show's return ever since.
