It appears highly doubtful that a well-liked character from 'Gavin & Stacey' will make a comeback for the final episode of the BBC's beloved comedy. Fans could be left feeling let-down as rumours abound about the absence of an adored character in the last instalment of the much-praised BBC show, which garnered public excitement when creators and main actors - James Corden and Ruth Jones unveiled on Instagram early this month having written the concluding episode.

Sharing an image of themselves examining a script labelled: "Gavin and Stacey: the finale" with 2024 inscribed on it, James captioned the post: "Some news... it's official! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James."

This revelation sent supporters into frenzy, particularly given that the most recent airing of the show was back in 2019. Yet, while the complete cast details remain under wraps, rumours imply that one cherished figure won't feature in the final episode.

According to reports from the Mirror, Sheridan Smith, greatly lauded for her depiction of Ruth 'Rudi' Smith, the younger sibling of Smithy (portrayed by James Corden), might not appear in the upcoming finale. Despite eager anticipation from fans to see Sheridan reprise her role once more, sources suggest that there has been "no conversations" concerning her involvement.

Rumours have surfaced that Sheridan Smith may not be reprising her role in the Gavin and Stacey special. A source reported to MailOnline: "Sheridan is highly unlikely to appear in the Gavin and Stacey finale. She's not been contacted by anyone about reprising her role and she has other big opportunities in the pipeline.", reports Wales Online.

They added: "Sheridan has huge respect for everybody involved in Gavin and Stacey and loved her time on the comedy. It was a fun time in her life."

Meanwhile, Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, has expressed her joy over the upcoming reunion. In a recent podcast appearance with EastEnders actress Natalie Cassidy, she stated: "I'm so excited to see the gang again and start filming and I can't wait to find out if Smithy has said yes."

Page continued: "I can't wait to find out what's happening to everybody! I'm going to have to keep that script away from your (Natalie's) little paws. But yeah we are going to be able to review it on our show at Christmas and I will be very cross if you aren't sitting down on Christmas Day watching me! ".

In a December interview, Sheridan Smith, who previously dated James Corden, discussed the possibility of future episodes. Speaking with Jason King on Heart Breakfast, the actress acknowledged the enduring popularity of the show.

On the potential for more Gavin & Stacey, she admitted: "People ask quite a lot. I have not a clue if they're going to do anymore or not I really don't know," she said.

"But I think what they've done is genius. They've left it on a high haven't they? So many shows overdo it because we all want more we all want more Gavin and Stacey."
