Gavin & Stacey fans are gearing up for the new episode this Christmas and Rob Brydon is the latest star to share their excitement about the BBC show's return, which was announced earlier in the spring.

Now Uncle Bryn has shared some more insight on Zoe Ball's BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show as the radio host welcomed the actor, alongside Strictly's Johannes Radebe and Paul Heaton, to regular feature Friends Round Friday.

Zoe asked the star, who was on the show to talk about new period series, My Lady Jane, if Gavin & Stacey fans would get an insight into the famous fishing trip mystery that has been teased on the Ruth Jones and James Corden-created sitcom for more than a decade.

Rob, who says he hasn't see the script yet, replied: "I hope not, because I think it's great that it's this thing.

"[And] it would be a mistake....because everyone would stop asking then!"

Zoe also asked him what he hoped to see for his character in the finale, which will be filmed later this year. "Just more of the same really, I always love it." He added that he loves Bryn's elongated speeches, continuing: "The last one there's that speech where he meets that woman at the services and she's lost her phone and he's so gullible and that's so lovely to play because the words are just beautiful.

"I was playing it to the rest of the cast, because we are all at the pub and Mat Horne is there [and] you know the way he does those great reaction shots."

The Would I Lie To You Host, who has just returned from Australia and New Zealand where he was touring with his one man show, also touched upon his role in Barbie - "it gave me street cred with my kids" - and whether he would go on Strictly? (No, as he has bad knees.)

Earlier this week Rob was on The One Show where he was asked about the leaked news that Gavin & Stacey was returning after five years.

Rob said: “[That was] horrible. That’s because you had to lie when people would ask you about it.” He added: “And it's confusing because we haven't filmed it yet. We’re not filming it until after the summer.” This correlates with what co-creator James Corden said earlier this month.
