Gavin & Stacey star explains why Christmas special leak was "horrible"
Gavin & Stacey star Rob Brydon has shared that the news of the upcoming Christmas special being leaked early was "horrible".
It was announced last month (May 3) that the beloved sitcom will return for one final episode this upcoming festive season, though the announcement was brought forward after the development was leaked early by the press.
Brydon, who plays Uncle Bryn on the show, spoke about the leaks during an appearance on The One Show, sharing: "We just had a call, I think it was James [Corden] again, who said 'yeah I think we're going to do it'.

"It was a while ago and then it was leaked, which was horrible because you had to lie then when people would ask you - really close friends and family. But people seem to have received it well," he added, whilst confirming that filming would begin after the summer.
He added that the script had been written "in total secrecy", revealing that none of the rest of the cast "had a clue" that James Corden and Ruth Jones had been working on a new episode.
Brydon isn't the only cast member to comment on the leaks, with co-creator and actor Ruth Jones saying: "It was unfortunate because James and I wanted to give everybody a nice surprise and I think it was really mean that they leaked it.
"It meant that I had to lie to people, to friends and family, because they were all saying, 'Is it happening?', and the reality is that until you have your cast booked, budget worked out, all of those things, you cannot say categorically that it is going to happen."

Joanna Page, who plays Stacey in the series, also spoke about the prospect of reprising her role for one final time, outlining her enthusiasm at being able to reunite with her co-stars after a five-year break.
"I'm so excited. I can't believe that we can finally talk about it and I don't have to keep it to myself," she said. "I'm so excited to see the gang again and start filming. I can't wait to find out if Smithy has said yes. I can't wait to find out what's happening to everybody!"
The final episode of Gavin & Stacey will air in December.
