Gavin and Stacy update as Ruth Jones says 'it's official'

Gavin and Stacey will be returning for one final episode.

The classic sitcom followed characters Gavin and Stacey, played by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, as they pursued a long-distance relationship across Essex and Wales.

Fans of the BBC show have been left anxiously waiting after the Christmas Special aired in 2019 and ended on a cliffhanger. Since then, there have been several rumours writers James Corden and Ruth Jones, who also star in the show, would be writing a finale to the show.

This morning, they confirmed the news fans have been waiting for. A post on Corden’s Instagram showed him and Jones holding up a script titled ‘Gavin and Stacey: the finale. Written by James Corden and Ruth Jones. 2024.”

In the caption, Corden said: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”

Fans of the show were delighted to hear about this. Stace said: “You’ve just made my Christmas!” Another said: "Now I'm wishing away the rest of the year. Best news!”

Celebrity fans also chipped in. Actor Richard E Grant commented with a series of love hearts emojis, while former footballer Rio Ferdinand said: “I’m clearing the diary.”
