Gazans Return to Survey Damage in Jabalia Camp Despite Continued IDF Offensive

People returned to the destroyed Jabalia Camp, in northern Gaza, on Thursday, May 30, even though the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they were still carrying out combat operations there.

Footage filmed by Fadi Alwhidi shows droves of people walking among destroyed buildings and piles of rubble in Jabalia Camp on Thursday.

The IDF said on X on Thursday that they continued to operate “in the heart of the Jabalia Camp.”

Other footage posted by Palestinian journalist Islam Bader filmed in Jabalia Camp on the same day shows people running for cover.

Bader said that people were “subjected to heavy gunfire and artillery shelling” as they returned to Jabalia.

Bader also said that Israeli forces had retreated from the western and central areas of Jabalia Camp to relocate to Tal Al-Zaatar and Beit Lahia.

Another Palestinian journalist who came back to Jabalia Camp to survey the damage described the scene as “heartbreaking.” Credit: Fadi Alwhidi via Storyful
