Gemma Atkinson has said her concerned aunt messaged her after reading headlines about her going through a “rough patch” with Gorka Marquez – which simply isn't true.
The actor addressed the "rough patch" rumours during her appearance on Lorraine where she was promoting her new book. She denied the claims that her relationship was under strain and instead, she celebrated the positives of their romance.
Atkinson revealed she had to reassure her family member after a newspaper initially reported speculation that the couple were going through a “rough patch” with the dancer flying to Madrid every week to star as a judge on the “Spanish Strictly”.
What, how and why?
She said: “We read that we were having a rough patch. It was actually my aunty who messaged me, she said, ‘It says in the press.’ I said, ‘Yeah, yeah it’s fine.’”
While the public sees the couple are spending a lot of time apart, Atkinson explained their relationship has always been like this because of the nature of Marquez’s job. While Marquez is working, Atkinson is looking after their two children Mia and Thiago. She said: “I get that people would find it strange that we’re apart a lot but that’s how it’s been since we met.”
She added: “Every year from August till Christmas he doesn’t know where he will be based if he has a partner. They go to where the celebrity is. I've done Strictly. I know that side, it’s not a shock to me, it’s not new to me. Army wives have their partners away for seven months. They make out I’m moaning I’m on my own for three weeks but im having the best time.”
What else happened on Lorraine?
Atkinson celebrated six years with her love Marquez with a rare night out following the speculation. The actor said her mum suggested they should enjoy a romantic evening meal out together.
She explained to Lorraine Kelly: “Six years! It was my mum who said go and celebrate your anniversary. We usually don't. Like a night in, meal for two. In the nicest ways, it feels a lot longer. I think because we’re apart so much that’s why it feels longer, in a nice way.
“The job he is doing now, he’s a judge on the Spanish Strictly. He flies to Madrid every Friday and flies back every Sunday. He’s the Anton, the nice judge. He’s home during the week.”
Atkinson explained it worked well for them because she gets time to herself and special time with the kids while Marquez gets to do something he loves.
