Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez both appeared to be taken by surprise as they jointly confirmed they've been nominated for a number of awards. The pair took to social media to reveal they'd been given a nod in the upcoming National Reality Television Awards.

Gemma, 39, and Gorka, 33, have landed themselves in three different categories for their own reality show, Gorka: Life Behind the Lens. The Hits Radio host and Strictly Come Dancing star first appeared in their own show last year ahead of the arrival of their second child.

It showed the pair as they opened up their lives and Greater Manchester home to the cameras as they documented their second pregnancy journey and the "absolute utter chaos of our day-to-day lives at home juggling work, dogs, toddlers and hormones."

The couple, who met while on the BBC One dance contest in 2017, have since welcomed their son Thiago, known as Tio for short, into the world back in July, just over four years after Gemma and Gorka, welcomed their first child, Mia.

And following the success of series one, the family were commissioned another run of Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens for UKTV’s free-to-air entertainment channel W and streaming service UKTV Play, with the number of episodes bumped from three to six.

On Monday (June 17), it was revealed that their show has made the shortlist in three categories at the National Reality Television Awards - in Best Docu-Series, Best Reality Non-Competition Show and Most Inspiring TV Show 2024 - while Bury-born Gemma has also received a solo nod for Celebrity Personality of the Year, where she's up against Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid, Love Island host Maya Jama and TV and radio star Rylan Clarke.

Sharing the news to his Instagram Story, Gorka said: "We've been nominated," as he shared a post from the awards social media page. Gemma then reshared her fiance's post and simply said: "Wow," alongside a shocked face emoji. She then added a second post and said: "We've been nominated for best reality show."

Gorka later shared a video from the sauna after getting messages regarding the news. Speaking to the camera, the dancer explained how fans can vote, also mentioning Strictly's nomination and co-star Dianne Buswell's nod.

He went on to say: "Remember vote for us, because that'd be amazing. Can you imagine if we win? I can't believe we're even nominated. We just did this show to show a little bit of our life, raise some awareness around pregnancy and parenthood, just show what our day-to-day is like. We're just normal people!"

It comes after the series ended with emotional scenes as Gorka prepared to leave Gemma and their children for weeks as he took part in the Strictly Come Dancing The Professionals live tour. The Spanish star was heard saying: "I'm not going to be home for at least five weeks...

"I hate being away. I just feel... not guilty. But you know, sometimes I go, 'Oh, I'm very tired,' and then Gemma is like, 'Well, I've been working [on] the radio, doing other jobs and [looking after] the two kids...' I just feel sorry that I'm not there helping. She's the force of this house. Without her this won't be running."

He continued: "It's also that she understands and supports me. Without her I wouldn't be able to do half of the things that I do. It's going to be hard because I'm going to miss them a lot. It was nice that we went away for a few weeks on holiday but it also makes it harder because I spend the whole day with them and from tomorrow, I'm going to go away and not see them." Gorka's eyes started to fill with tears as he said: "I don't even want to think about it!" before wiping his eyes.

The National Reality TV Awards 2024 will be broadcast live on VooVix TV. Fans can cast their votes for their favourite shows, celebrities, and participants starting from June 17 until July 29, 2024, via social media platform Telephonos.
