Gemma Atkinson has made a vow after breaking fans' hearts for being able to talk about her beloved dog 'without crying' following his sad death. The Hits Radio host was left devasted over the weekend as she said goodbye to one of her pet dogs, Norman.

Gemma shared the heartbreaking news of Norman's death on Sunday (June 30) by posting a moving video featuring pictures and clips of him from over the years with her and fellow dog Ollie, as well as Gemma's fiancé Gorka Marquez and their two children, Mia and Thiago. "My beautiful boy Norman has passed away. My heart is broken," she said.

The Bury-born star went on to pay tribute to her much-loved pet who she said gave her her "first experience of being a mum and having someone other than myself to care for".

She also shared her sadness at her daughter, Mia, having to suffer the loss as well. Gemma then rounded off her tear-jerking post: "I’m going to love you, miss you and remember you forever. Until we meet again Norman… Go and run again and have some fun up there with my dad. You’re such a good boy."

It comes after Gemma shared how she hoped to help her daughter. She said: "I'm trying my hardest to explain to her what's happened and today I posted a card addressed to her from Norman in heaven, explaining he's happy and his legs work and she doesn't need to worry about him. It should arrive on Tues. I'm hoping it helps."

The mum-of-two has since been seen returning to Hits Radio where she is the co-host of the Drivetime show with pal Mike Toolan. In a clip shared to the station's Instagram page, Gemma could be heard saying: "I had to say goodbye to my wonderful dog Norman over the weekend.

"You have to be their voice throughout their whole life, make their decisions, help them and had I gone a day longer not making that awful decision, I would have been doing Norm injustice and I just had to put him first and not me. Although selfishly, I still want him here."

Mike then offered Gemma some comforting words, saying: "Well he was very lucky to have you. You're great. You couldn't have loved him any more and you know, you guys are very lucky to have loved each other." She has since shared the clip to her Instagram Story and vowed: "I'll always, ALWAYS talk about Norman."

And followers and listeners were quick to respond with supportive messages. @fionafifi1 said: "I was sobbing watching that video Gemma posted. No pain like it. Thinking of you all." @_thirtysept_ commented: "How you managed to talk about it without breaking down I don’t know. Worst thing ever in your life to lose a pet. I cried more over my dogs than any human."

@amanda.gough123 wrote: "Bless you & Norm & Toolan too for his kindness." @nicmcgee84 replied: "What a lovely thing to say @miketoolan. Honestly, I don't know how Gemma said that without crying but Norman is flying high now on rainbow bridge." @honeybxx added: "This is so true! Norman we love you gorgeous boy. You are the best dog mum ever @glouiseatkinson."

Gemma, 39, has since shared the emotional results of Mia's letter from Norman. Sharing a video to her Instagram Story on Tuesday (July 2), the mum-of-two could be seen speaking to the four-year-old in their Greater Manchester home. "Bless her," Gemma said before explaining: "Norman's said his legs work, he's very happy..."

She asked Mia what else he said, to which the toddler replied: "He can run around, he doesn't need his socks on and he's met the Queen and 'GanGan' David and he misses me very much. He'll visit me when I'm asleep..." before explaining he'd asked her to keep her 'snuggie' out for him, but she joked she'd lost it and would use her little brother's instead.
