Gemma Atkinson has thanked fans for their messages as she offered an update on her beloved pet dog. Last week, the Hits Radio host told how the family had had a fraught 24 hours with their dog, Norman, as he fell ill.

She told her fans and followers how she'd had quite the 24-hour period with her dog after she found he was unable to move. A trip to the vet unused where the mum-of-two was heartbreakingly told there was nothing more they could do.

She sadly told how she'd started making arrangements and had cried more than she has ever done during her six-year-long relationship with Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka. "Part of being a responsible dog owner is doing what's right for them and I promised Norman and Ollie we'll always do what's best for them, not us," Gemma shared.

But they were given a lifeline when the vet said she could tweak Norman's medication. "It might not give him long, could be weeks, months but I'm not having him in pain. I know that. I'm not going to have him suffering," Gemma shared. "It was awful," she added.

Gemma has since been flooded with messages from her fans wanting to check in on the family, particularly on Norman and on Monday (June 24), she shared a video of her helping Norman up to his feet before he walked around with his tail wagging happily. "Thanks for asking about Norman," Gemma typed alongside the video.

"He still can't get up very well but once he's up, he's ok. It's his two back legs (you can see they point outwards a bit). He's had both his cruciate ligaments done so they have always been weak since," she added.

And on Friday (June 28), after a few more days of quietness on social media, Gemma shared a fresh video of Norman and gave fans and update. The Bury-born star started by saying: "Thank you for checking in re Norm [red heart emoji]. He's not doing too good to be honest with you all."

Gemma, 39, heartbreakingly added: "I'm trying my best to be positive but I know realistically it needs more than just being hopeful." But the mum-of-two was able to smile as she gave fans a baby update.

She shared an adorable video of her 11-month-old son Thiago, who she shares with Strictly Come Dancing star fiance Gorka Marquez, on his feet and walking across the grass in the garden of their Greater Manchester home. "In happier news, we have a walker," Gemma wrote across the sweet video with a number of face surrounded by heart emojis.

It comes after Gemma shared a video earlier in the week in which she was making the most out of the sunshine with her nearly one-year-old son. The pair headed out into the garden and it is there where Thiago, known as Tio for short, surprised his mum by taking a few steps on his own.

Luckily, the radio presenter, who also shares four-year-old daughter Mia with Gorka, had captured the sweet moment on her phone and then took to Instagram to share it with her fans. The caption read: "Exploring in the garden. He definitely walked on his own, didn't he?! I keep watching it back but he did!! [clapping emoji."

Fans and friends then took to the comments section to reassure the mum, with Hits Radio co-host Mike Toolan writing: "He deffo did!! Way to go Tio. Get him to do split squats now," seemingly referring to Gemma's keen interest in the gym.
