Millions of voters across London will go the polls on July 4 to elect the new Government. The Standard looks at key battleground and other seats in the capital, and has published an interactive map. Here we turn the spotlight on:

ILFORD SOUTH

Estimated declaration time 6.30am

Candidates for main parties (in alphabetical order):

Jas Athwal - Labour Party

Richard Clare - Liberal Democrats

Raj Forhad - Reform UK

Sayeed Syduzzaman - Conservatives

Syed Siddiqi - Green Party

Summary: If you wanted to see the deep splits within Labour, you could have headed up to Ilford in north east London.

In Ilford North, shadow health secretary Wes Streeting is pledging to bring in Blair-style reforms to the NHS.

In Ilford South, Corbynite Sam Tarry, an ex-trade union official, lost out in his battle to be able to stand again as the Labour MP.

In controversial circumstances, Mr Tarry was pipped by Jas Athwal to be the party’s parliamentary candidate in 2019 and the former won with a majority of 24,101.

But Mr Athwal, the leader of Redbridge Council, won the backing of the local Labour party to be the candidate this time around.

Shadow transport minister Mr Tarry was "removed” from the Labour frontbench two years ago after appearing on a picket line during a rail strike, with party chiefs claiming he had not followed “collective responsibility”.

Area: Wards in the constituency include Chadwell Heath, Chadwell, Clementswood, Goodmayes, Ilford Town, Loxford, Mayfield, Newbury and Seven Kings.

YouGov MRP poll prediction: Labour hold

Evening Standard view: Labour infighting in Ilford has been a microcosm of what has gone on in the wider party in the Corbyn years but it has not affected its likelihood of holding this seat.
