Millions of voters across London will go to the polls on July 4 to elect the new Government. The Standard looks at key battleground and other seats in the capital, and has published an interactive map.

Here we turn the spotlight on:

EALING NORTH

Candidates for main parties (in alphabetical order):

Leon Harris - Reform UK

Maria Khan - Conservatives

Natalia Kubica - Green

James Murray - Labour

Craig O’Donnell - Liberal Democrats

Summary: Ealing North was long a bellwether seat, voting for the winning party in every election from February 1974 to 1997. Since Tony Blair’s landslide, however, it has become ever safer for Labour.

The A40, London’s main artery from the West, almost exactly bisects the constituency. To the south of the Western Avenue lies Greenford, to its north are Northolt and Perivale, home to the iconic, Art Deco, Hoover Building.

The demographics of Ealing as a whole are highly diverse, with more than 30% identifying as Asian British, and it also has one of Britain’s largest Japanese populations.

In 2019, the constituency gave 56.5% of the vote to Labour’s James Murray, who had been serving as deputy mayor of London for housing. He is standing again, having earned promotion under Sir Keir Starmer to shadow financial secretary.

Wards: Central Greenford; Greenford Broadway; North Greenford; North Hanwell; Northolt Mandeville; Northolt West End; Perivale; Pitshanger.

Boundary changes impact: Minimal.

YouGov MRP poll prediction: Labour hold.

Evening Standard view: From City Hall to an integral part of Rachel Reeves’ incoming Treasury team, James Murray is set fair to continue his rise up the Labour ranks after he is returned back to the Commons.
