General election results mapped out showing full scale of power shift

Labour has secured a resounding victory in the general election, with Sir Keir Starmer now poised to become the next Prime Minister.

Exit polls predicted Labour could end up with more than 400 seats in Parliament, where only 326 are needed to secure a majority government.

Meanwhile the Conservatives are predicted to end up with just 131 seats following a devastating defeat, with high-profile party members including Liz Truss, Jacob Rees Mogg and Penny Mourdant losing their seats.

Reform UK came in second place after Labour, pushing the Conservatives to third place - marking their worst performance in nearly two centuries.

Rishi Sunak managed to keep his seat in North Yorkshire, but conceded Labour's victory in the general election following the announcement of results in his constituency. Speaking at an event in London, Sir Keir described the UK as experiencing the "sunlight of hope".

Later today, Keir will take up residence at 10 Downing Street after being officially appointed as the UK's new prime minister.

Meanwhile, Mr Sunak is on his way back to London from his North Yorkshire constituency, reports the Manchester Evening News. He is expected to deliver a farewell address outside Number 10 later today.
