Geneva County girls basketball coach resigns

HARTFORD, Ala (WDHN) — Head Coach for the Geneva County Varsity Girls Basketball Team, Lacy Holmes, is resigning, coaching staff at Geneva County High confirmed to WDHN early Thursday morning.

Reports show Holmes submitted her resignation as the head girl’s basketball coach and high school teacher on February 16.

The Geneva County High School website lists Holmes as the physical education teacher for the 2023-24 school year.

Holmes’ resignation is expected to be approved during the Geneva County Board of Education’s March Meeting.

Holmes was named head coach at GCHS in June 2022. In that position, she led the Lady Dawgs 24-6 in 2022 and 6-16 during the 2023 season.

While under her leadership, the Dawgs went to the Class 2A Finals in 2022. This was the first time since 2017.

Holmes, then known as Lacy Stafford, graduated from GCHS in 2016.

Holmes was a star player on the varsity girls’ basketball team in Hartford while a student.

Holmes turned in her resignation just three days after Head Football Coach and Athletics Director for GCHS, Josh Thompson, announced he was leaving the school.
