The late actor recurred as Elijah Muhammad, the embattled leader of the Nation of Islam and Malcolm X’s mentor.

TVLine has an exclusive sneak peek at Jones’ last TV scene, which occurs in Episode 6, titled “The American Promise” and set to air back-to-back with Episode 5 on Thursday starting at 9/8c; both episodes will stream next day on Hulu and Disney+.

In the above video, Malcolm X (played by The Underground Railroad’s Aaron Pierre) confronts Muhammad over his many scandals, including infidelity. In real life, Malcolm X broke from the Nation of Islam in 1964 and was assassinated during a speech in the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan less than a year later.

Genius: MLK/X simultaneously explores the “formative years, pioneering accomplishments, dueling philosophies and key personal relationships” of both Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) and Malcolm X.

The eight-episode series also brings their wives, Coretta Scott King (Weruche Opia) and Betty Shabazz (Jayme Lawson), to the forefront and “shows them as formidable equals of the Movement,” the description continues. “While King and X met only once and often challenged each other’s views, the two visionaries, with their wives leading by their sides, ultimately rose to pioneer a movement that lives on today.”

Ambassador Attallah Shabazz, eldest daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, served as a consulting producer.
