Dame Judi Dench has paid tribute to Geoffrey Palmer, who died on Friday (6 November), aged 93.

Dench, 85, appeared alongside Palmer in BBC sitcom As Time Goes By, which ran from 1992 to 2005.

The show featured the pair as two former lovers who marry each other after meeting again unexpectedly.

Dench and Palmer also starred together in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies and costume drama Mrs Brown.

Paying tribute to Palmer, Dench called him a "master of comedy".

“Oh my goodness, how we laughed – we did nine (series) of As Time Goes By and it is too numerous to mention how many times,” she said on BBC Radio 4's Front Row.

"I used to stand there before each recording and think, ‘How have I got myself into this?’ I was always so frightened. but there was no need.

Palmer’s agent said that the star died “peacefully” at home.

He is survived by his wife Sally Greene, with whom he had a daughter and a son.
