Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have issued their first ever royal statement in the form of a heartfelt message to their dad Prince William.

The three young royals signed a post that appeared on their parents' social media pages for Father's Day, writing: "We love you, Papa," alongside a photo of the Prince of Wales with his children. Kensington Palace confirmed that the picture was taken by the Princess of Wales on the Norfolk coast last month.

The family appeared at Trooping the Colour on Saturday in their first public royal engagement together since Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis. 10-year-old George, nine-year-old Charlotte and six-year-old Louis rode with their mother in a carriage as part of the procession to mark King Charles' official birthday, before William and Kate later appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony with their three children to watch the traditional fly-past.

Although royal fans were pleased to see Kate in good spirits following her health battles, it was the youngest member of the Wales family that attracted attention at the celebrations. Prince Louis was once again branded a "little icon" for his cheeky antics during Trooping the Colour, which included letting out a couple of gigantic yawns and busting out some dance moves.

George, Charlotte and Louis' Father's Day message accompanied other heartfelt statements issued by fellow royal family members for the occasion. Their dad William shared a photo of himself playing football with the King as a two-year-old, wearing short dungarees and a striped blue top.

"Happy Father's Day, Pa," the social media post, personally signed by William, said. The photo of father and son together in the gardens of Kensington Palace, with Charles pictured in a grey double-breasted suit kicking a small football, was taken on June 12 1984.

The Royal Family's official X account also shared footage of Charles and his late father, Prince Philip, sourced from the BFI archive. Set to piano music, the footage showed several moving of Philip and Charles together.

In one clip, Philip can be seen lifting baby Charles out of a pram, in another the pair are seen sailing together. "Wishing all Dads, and those who may be missing their parents today, a relaxing Father's Day," the royal family's official account said.
