George Michael to be buried next to his beloved mum

It has been reported that George Michael will be buried in a plot next to his beloved mother after tragically passing away on Sunday.

The 53-year-old singer died from heart failure at his Oxfordshire home on Christmas day, and insiders have revealed that he’ll be laid to rest in Highgate cemetery, North London, beside his mother Lesley.

George was left devastated when Lesley died from cancer back in 1997.

A source told The Sun: “George’s love for his mother remained as strong as it had always been, and he always said he hoped he would be able to be with her again.

“It’s what he would have wanted.

“George Michael’s family have a private plot where his mother is buried – and there is currently space within it for further burials.”

Following Lesley’s death George admitted that there was a “very strong possibility” he would have taken his own life if it wasn’t for the support of his then-partner, Kenny Goss.

George’s family have released a statement thanking fans for their “outpouring of love” after the news of George’s death broke late on Sunday night, also denying that his passing was a result of heroin usage.

The statement reads: “The family and close friends of George have been touched beyond words by the incredible outpouring of love for him in the hours and days since his death.

“For someone whose life was ultimately about his music and the love he had for his family and friends, his fans and the world at large, there could be no more fitting tribute than the many kind words that have been said and the numerous plays his records have received.

“Contrary to some reports, there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and from the bottom of our hearts we thank those who, rightly, have chosen to celebrate his life and legacy at this most distressing of times.”
